Catalonia is implementing a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system based on the open source standard openEHR to improve collaboration and sustainability, interoperability and shared vocabularies and ontologies across all entities of the Integrated Public Health System.
The Catalonia region of Spain is implementing a new electronic health record (EHR) system based on the international open reference standard OpenEHR. The new EHR will be more collaborative and sustainable, and will use open standards to improve interoperability and shared and common vocabularies and ontologies across all entities operating within the Integrated Public Health System.
OpenEHR is an open source standard for the specific design of clinical information models in electronic health records. It will be used to develop archetypes for clinical data collection and management throughout the life cycle of the information system. EHR implementation will reduce waiting times, improve healthcare and ensure traceability and transparency. It will also favor the deployment of clinical services based on health data and information integrity.
For all these reasons, Catalonia opted for this standard in order to maximize the efficiency of the adoption of the standard VeraTech experts designed a specific training program for the CatSalut work team composed of more than 100 people. The training phase is currently underway. More information about the future Electronic Health Record of Catalonia based on openEHR.
